Are Wood Pool Sticks Better than Other Pool Sticks?
People who are really into pool like professional players and near -professional hobbyists have been debating whether or not pool sticks made from wood are better than pool sticks made from other materials for a long time. Ever since pool sticks made from new materials like graphite and aluminum started being made the argument has been made that wooden pool cues are better than cues made from the new materials. Is there something to that argument or are the people that prefer wooden pool sticks just not adapting to change? Everyone is different, so everyone is entitled to have a different opinion on which type of pool cue is best. Some people will always prefer one type of pool cue to another type of pool cue. But according to billiards experts the people that claim that wooden pool sticks are better than aluminum or graphite pools sticks just might have some facts that back up their claim of superiority. Wooden pool sticks will give players more feel of the ball and more feel of the shot that they just took. When a wooden pool cue strikes a ball the player can feel the vibration through the wood and can get a sense of how well the shot was played from that. Since metal and aluminum cues are not made from natural materials they don't give the player the same kind of feel so that players can't tell if they just made the shot as well as they hoped or not. The feel of the shot is very important when you're playing billiards so the most dedicated billiards fans and the best players all agree that in order to be really effective pool sticks need to be made of wood.
There is also an element of style that comes with having a wooden pool cue that makes them more desirable. Billiards players who really get into the game want to have high quality cues made from high end materials. Often they have custom made wooden cues that are made with inlays or other decorations that reflect the personality of the player. Graphite and aluminum pool sticks can be personalized but usually graphite and aluminum cues are only decorated with paint or decals. Fans of wooden pool cues say that the cue itself is a work of art but that aluminum and graphite cues are just pool sticks because they are not made according to the time honored and exacting traditions that craftsmen use to make high end pool cues. Ultimately what really matters is which type of pool cue you are most comfortable with and what type of cue is appropriate for how much you play. If you are just a casual player that likes to hang out and shoot on weekends you probably don't need an expensive, custom made wooden pool cue but if you are someone that wants to play pool professionally or play as an amateur in tournaments and leagues then you will probably be better off buying a nice custom made wooden pool cue.

I bought a Stinger 6 years ago. I love the girth, length and tip. My Stinger is a break, jump, play cue. It breaks into 3 pieces and the tip is guaranteed for life. I never even have to scuff it! Billiards is probably my favorite past time, great Hub!
what company is my player pool stick made by?

custom pool cue 3 years ago
Great Hub. Very interesting. I have to be honest, in my opinion, a pool cue has to be wooden. Playing with anything else just doesn't feel right.
